How we grade

A memecoin’s value rests on a joke somebody made. The question this index answers is a narrow one: is this token actually connected to that joke, or is it just wearing its name?

Why authenticity is the thing to measure

People want the real thing. Not a better thing, not a cheaper thing — the actual object that was there when it happened. It is why an original carries value a perfect copy never does, and why the art world spends so much effort on chains of custody: without one, a convincing story is enough to pass a fake off as real, and plenty of them hang in museums.

Memecoins inherited the problem and made it worse. Anyone can deploy a contract named after a meme in a minute, and almost everyone does. The biggest names in the category have no connection to the images they are named for — the people who made those images were never asked, and rarely saw a cent. Namesakes are cheap and infinite, which is exactly what makes the genuine article scarce.

Authenticity is what people actually care about; provenance is only how you prove it. So this index leads with the judgement — is this real? — and keeps the paper trail underneath it, on every token page, in full.

The questions

Every token is reviewed against the same checklist. Answers are recorded verbatim, hedges included — a token page shows exactly what the reviewer wrote, not a score derived from it.

Each token page also says when its review was last gone through: the Last reviewed date a maintainer types into the sheet, never the time this site last read it. A row with no date says Not yet datedrather than borrowing one, and the same date is what a crawler is given as the page’s modified date — or nothing. Today 0 of 58 tokens carry a date.

One letter, assigned by a reviewer reading the answers as a whole. It is a judgement about the token’s link to its meme — nothing about its price, its team, or whether it is worth buying.

42 of 58 tokens carry a grade. The rest are indexed but not yet reviewed, and show a dash rather than a guess. Only those eight letters count as a grade: a cell holding anything else is treated as no grade at all — in the count above, in the sort and in the share — and is listed under What the import had to fix.

What the grade does not measure

The grade measures one thing: the strength of the link between this token and the person who made the work it trades on. It does not measure size, liquidity, chain, venue, holder count, or whether the thing reads as a memecoin at all.

It cuts both ways. An obvious memecoin with no link to its creator scores low: Hawk Tuah is liquid, unambiguous and instantly recognisable, and it grades E, because nothing connects the coin to the person in the clip. That half the index already applies.

And a token that barely reads as a memecoin can score high. An artist minting their own work on a content platform, with a handful of holders and no exchange pool, has a stronger claim to that work than a namesake with a hundred times the market cap. Small, obscure, and on an unexpected venue are facts about what a token is. They say nothing about whether it is real. The index does not yet apply that half consistently — the rule is published first, so the grades can be corrected against it rather than the other way round.

Whether a token appears on this site at all is a separate decision, kept in a separate column — Displayed on site? — answered by hand, and the grade does not feed it. A row whose cell reads No is not displayed anywhere: not on the index or in its count, total and share, not at its own page or certificate, not on a subject page, not in the markets feed. A blank cell and a Yes both display. The column exists for rows still being researched, whose cells can all be filled before the review is. How many rows are held back is counted under What the import had to fix; which ones is not published here — the cell says not to display the row, and its name is part of the row. Today no row is held back — all 58 rows that parse are displayed.

What the import had to fix

The spreadsheet is a working document, so reading it is forgiving: a contract address typed into the ticker column is recovered, a missing chain is inferred from the address format, and a duplicate name is disambiguated. Rows with no usable contract at all are dropped.

One thing the spreadsheet cannot check itself: whether an address is really the token. A trading pair’s address looks exactly like a token’s, and a chart URL ends in the pair, so pasting the wrong one is easy and nothing about the row looks wrong afterwards — it simply never shows a price. Every address is therefore asked, on its own chain, whether it is a token; the ones that answer as a pool are listed below. Where no public node for a chain is available the answer is unconfirmed, which is listed separately and is not the same as passing.

The same sweep reads what a Solana mint can do to a holder — its token program, whether the mint and freeze authorities are live or revoked, and any Token-2022 extensions — and every token page prints the result beside each contract address as one of three states: Checked <date>: no warnings, Checked <date>: followed by the powers the read found, or Not yet checked, drawn dashed so it can never pass for clean. An address the sweep has not read, could not reach, or confirmed only by a listing without reading the mint account is not yet checked, whatever else is known about it. Where the node could decode some of a mint’s extensions but not all, the powers it did decode are printed and the page says the list may be incomplete. An address that turned out to be a pool or no contract at all gets a fourth badge, Checked <date>: not the token, and is also listed under Contract addresses that are not the token below. On Ethereum and the other EVM chains the read confirms identity only — name, symbol, decimals, and that the address is not a pool — and says so; owner and proxy powers are not read there yet. A live authority is printed as a fact, not a warning: a bridged mint holds one by design, so whether it becomes a warning on the row is the maintainers’ call per token, in the sheet’s Token warnings column.

Every repair and every drop is listed below rather than applied quietly, so a mistake in the sheet is visible here instead of silently becoming part of the index. Read 21:38 UTC — when the sheet was fetched, not when any row was reviewed; each token page carries its own Last reviewed date.

Where the sheet and the treasury disagree — 0

The other boards

Since 5 September 2026 the site reads five more tabs of the same spreadsheet and publishes each as a leaderboard: Crypto Native, Celebrity and Creator Coins, NFTs, Collections and Other Notable Culture, and Vamps. They are read the same way — live, checked against a saved copy, and refused when they look wrong — and repaired the same way. Nothing on them is graded; the grade belongs to the index alone. A tag on a board row — CREATOR, BLESS, IP — is therefore drawn outlined, as a sheet tag: the maintainers’ word, with no questionnaire behind it and unverified. CREATOR and BLESS are filled only where the row’s evidence cell holds a link, which is the one thing a board row can put behind the word; the board itself stays ungraded, and each board says so under its intro.

Every row on every board is filed under a subject— the meme, the person or the collection it is about — so one page can show the token, the original artwork and the collection together. A row is placed on exact evidence only, tried strongest first: a Subject ID typed into the sheet, then a contract address equal to a deployment the site already knows, then a name equal to a token's name letter for letter — same case, same punctuation, so hi okay is not Hi Okay. An id means what it says and always wins, even one that names nothing yet (it is listed below rather than overruled); a row whose name and contract point at two different subjects is placed on neither and listed below too. The rules run over every board in that order, strongest evidence first, so the result does not depend on which tab is read first, and each section of a subject page says which rule put it there. Anything looser stands on its own page, and the rows that look as if they might belong together are listed below for a person to decide, never merged by a guess.

The NFT board ranks every priced sale on one ETH scale. A sale the sheet records in ETH is taken as written. A sale it records in dollars is converted at ETH’s close on the sale date — the last price CoinGecko reports at or before midnight UTC of the following day — and shown with ≈ and the rate used, so a $15,000 sale on a day ETH closed at $3,000 ranks as 5 ETH, between a 4 ETH and a 6 ETH sale. Where the numbers come from

Token metadata — names, contracts, creators, review answers — is read live from the maintainers’ spreadsheet, so an edit there reaches this site within a minute. A copy is kept in the repository and served if the spreadsheet cannot be read. Prices, volume and market cap are fetched live from DexScreener, with GeckoTerminal filling the gaps it does not index.

Roughly a third of the index has no tradeable pool at all. Most of those are fractionalized-NFT tokens that were never listed on an exchange. They stay in the index because their authenticity is the point, and they are marked No active market rather than dropped or shown with a misleading zero.

Fifteen of them do have one market: Dank Bank’s own AMM, which is the only place they trade. Those are shown as a Buy-side quote only — the pool quotes against an ETH reserve that is almost entirely virtual, so it will sell to you but can only buy back what its real reserve covers. The price is an ask, the market cap is marked to that ask, and the real ETH in each pool is printed beside them. Together they mark to roughly $4m against about $3.4k that could actually be paid out.

Which market caps count. Every market cap on the site carries its source, and one rule decides whether it enters any sum, ratio or rank. It counts only when a price source reported it as a market cap — a circulating supply at a price a holder could sell at: DexScreener, GeckoTerminal or Solana Tracker for an indexed token; CoinGecko, or DexScreener for a token CoinGecko does not list, for a vamp — or, on the Vamps board alone, the figure written into the sheet, shown with its date; that figure ranks the board but never enters the share. Two figures never count. A Dank Bank AMM mark, for the reason above. And a fully diluted valuation — price times total supply — which DexScreener and GeckoTerminal send in place of a market cap when they know no circulating supply. Both stay on the row, marked nominal, because a figure with its caveat beats a dash; the row sorts with the unpriced rows under Marketcap, and the figure enters neither the index total at the top of the table nor either side of the authenticity share. The rule is written once, in code that the total, the share, the sort and the markets API all read, so they cannot disagree. Whether a nominal figure should ever count is an open editorial decision; if it changes, it changes everywhere at once.

The authenticity share at the top of the index is the counted market cap of the indexed tokens graded S, A+ or A — less any index token that has itself been ruled a vamp — over that figure plus the counted market cap of the vamps ruled counted. Counted means the rule above: a token whose only figure is an AMM mark or a fully diluted valuation adds nothing to the numerator, however it is graded, and a vamp whose only figure is a fully diluted valuation adds nothing to the denominator. Most of the index has no exchange pool at all, so the share is a floor: what can be shown to be connected, not what is. When either side is empty — no vamp priced, or no graded token with a figure that counts, as when the price sources are down — the share is not shown at all rather than shown as 0%.

Charts are DexScreener embeds and swaps run through DefiLlama’s aggregator, or Jupiter on Solana. DeVamp never takes custody of funds and never brokers a trade — the swap widget connects your wallet to those services directly.

Who makes this and what they hold

DeVamp is made by BIC DAO — the Bureau of Internet Culture — and path.eth. The DAO holds tokens, and some of them are tokens this site grades or lists. That is a conflict of interest, and the way it is handled here is to publish it rather than to talk around it: what the DAO holds of every token is on the token’s own page and on its row, derived on every refresh from the treasury addresses listed on the treasury page and never typed in.

Each figure is one of three things. An amount— with a dollar figure at the token’s own price on this site, shown only where that price sits under a market cap that counts — means the token was found in a treasury wallet, on the supplied side of a pool the treasury provides liquidity to, or in a vesting grant to it. Nonemeans the treasury has a wallet on the token’s chain and the token is in none of them. Unanswered means the question could not be answered this time — a wallet read failed, or the DAO has no wallet on any chain the token is deployed to, or the treasury could not be read at all — and an unread chain is never shown as an empty one. Every treasury wallet counts, including the ones whose addresses are not published. The definition is one sentence in the glossary.

The site also hosts the NFD → BIC migration page, /migrate. Feisty Doge (NFD) is an indexed token; BIC is the Bureau of Internet Culture’s own token, which NFD migrates into one for one. The migration page says on its own face whether it is live.
